ISRA Compendium for Islamic Financial Terms: Arabic-English is unique in that it defines most of the relevant Islamic financial terms, and it does so in both Arabic and English. This is in contrast to other financial lexicons, some of which are purely Arabic, while others are purely English. Its second distinction is that it explains from a fiqh perspective the differences between financial terms that are apparently synonymous but which, on closer examination, have distinct meanings in the usage of jurists. We are not aware of any Arabic writings that focus on this area of discipline, let alone works in English. Another feature is that the translation of the Arabic terms has focused, as much as possible, on considering the English equivalents being used in the field of Islamic finance. This compendium can be considered as basic ‘must have’ material for all participants and observers. It has been prepared in two languages, Arabic and English, to benefit all the existing and potential industry players around the globe. Not only does this work provide concise and precise definitions of Islamic finance terms, it also clarifies the differences between terms that seem to be similar.
